Christ’s full and universal work of salvation is present in the Eucharist. We come to mass to meet Jesus as our Saviour.
Salvation is reconciliation with God and reconciliation with people. Salvation is deliverance from evil powers. Salvation is the healing of the whole person: spirit, soul and body. Salvation is a new life, a divine life, a life in the Holy Spirit.
In this mass we ask Christ for deliverance and healing – for ourselves, for the problems we face in our families (e.g. alcoholism) and for all people. Where there is enmity and hostility in our lives, we ask for reconciliation; we ask to be reconciled with those members of our family who have died; and we ask that all those who have passed away may find eternal peace with God.
In preparation for the mass consider the particular issues you want to pray for – for yourself and for others. You might like to draw a family tree going back 3 – 4 generations, with a description of the problems in your family. Bring this with you to mass.
But the most important thing is that you come to this mass with the desire to be forgiven for your own sins and with the will to forgive those who have hurt you.
Catholics will have the opportunity for confession one hour before mass. Everybody is welcome for a personal talk.
